How safe is it to use your credit card?

Does this mean that there is no possibility of your credit card being misused?  No.  But the possibility is very slim and there are simple steps that will reduce the risk.

How the process works

The order may go to an intermediary or directly to the merchant's server.  Companies vary as to when they process your credit card details.  Some do immediately, while others wait until the product has been shipped.

Both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt the data that you send over the Internet.  However, this technology does not authenticate the parties at either end of the transaction.

The advantages of credit cards

Liability protection for unauthorised use
